There are a few fashion trends that never go out of style.
December, so far, has been a season of “mom jeans”, corduroy, turtlenecks and vintage everything. It didn’t occur to me how much I loved these trends until I walked out of the house in a multi-color turtleneck and a raspberry colored corduroy skirt.
Here’s my take on a winters day back in a retro-fashioned world! … or is this just modern-day fashion?
I kept accessories for this look minimal with a single pair of glasses because I felt that both the top and skirt did ALL the talking. Playing this outfit up with sparkle and mixing metals would make the outfit feel cluttered and loud, which isn’t suited for where I was headed at the time.
I opted for black boots and tights to finish this look off because the color palette was so bright already, so I needed the consistency of black to pull the look together.
This sherpa inspired jacket was a great layering piece for the look and I loved that it had that rust color to mesh with the orange pops of color in my turtleneck. A neutral and solid color jacket to throw over a vibrant top helps tame the colors down to make something more wearable and every day.
This outfit felt very mix-matched to me in terms of color and textiles, but once I threw everything together, it just worked! It’s definitely not everyone’s cup of tea, especially with the vibrancy of the top, but I think experimenting with fashion is so fun and rewarding.

I’ll keep this blog post short and sweet by noting that this look was completely out of my comfort zone! Loud colors are something I never run to when I’m shopping, but I felt inspired to try new trends this holiday season. I urge you to play with colors, fabrics, textiles, and styles whenever you can because wearing the same look with different variations of the pieces in it can grow old fast. You never know what styles could make you feel most confident if you aren’t willing to try them!
