Trending Styles : Mules & Off-the-shoulder Cuts

I cannot keep up.

Lately, I feel like clothing trends come in and out of style as fast as you can say “next, please.” I mostly feel this way because I’m a cautious shopper, so I like to get comfortable with the current trends before I invest in their short-lived timeline. In fact, I have yet to buy and sport a bodysuit (a year old trend) because I’m still conflicted on the whole thing. I mean, can’t you just tuck your shirt in and call it the same thing? Who knows.

There have been a few recently introduced trends, however, that I physically couldn’t stop my debit card from swiping on. These being: mules and off-the-shoulder pieces. I’ve combined my two recent purchases inspired by this trend into an elegant, bohemian look that is shown below. Should you read any further about why I love these current trends, I hope you find inspiration to add these items, or similar items, into your own closet! Trust me, you’ll need them.

I can’t tell if it’s just me, but I think mules are the better-looking friend of Nike slides. Think about it, it’s the same exact style, just prettier! If this wasn’t enough reasoning to give into the trend, I’m not sure what is. I’m really drawn to the overall simplicity and femininity of the shoe. It’s a basic slip-on sandal, with or without a small heel, and pairs with absolutely everything. If you’re anything like me, I’m always waiting to the last minute to throw my outfit together, so the fact that I can slip on a pair of mules with any outfit and call it a day, is perfect. Granted, my mules did give me blisters the first time around, they were still worth the pain. Should you invest in a better quality pair, you probably won’t be having this issue. Don’t forget, the color and texture options of mules are endless!

Off-the-shoulder cuts

What. A. Confidence. Booster. I think we can all agree that insecurity strikes us all at some point in our lives and unfortunately, it’s an everyday battle for me. If I’m being completely honest, I’m not fond of my arms, and I do have broader shoulders, so this cut does all the wonders for me. This off-the-shoulder dress, in particular, covers my upper arms exactly how I want and exposes my shoulders in a very flattering way. This type of cut on tops and dresses is my perfect solution for the open shoulder tops that I despised. There are so many versions, styles, and takes on this trend, so don’t get discouraged with the first one you try-on.

Keep in mind what works and doesn’t work for me, could be completely different for you! It’s all about wearing what makes you feel most confident about yourself. At the end of the day, that’s sweatpants and baggy t-shirts for me.
